This 1972 Jensen Interceptor SP is a rare and highly sought-after example of one of Britains most distinctive grand tourers. Documented in Richard Calvers Jensen Chassis Data as chassis number 131/4472 with engine number SP10132/131, it is a genuine matching-numbers car. An early production example—number 28 of only 232 built—it left the West Bromwich factory on 25 January 1972, finished in Mustard with a black vinyl roof and black interior. The Interceptor SP (for Six Pack) represented the pinnacle of Jensens performance range, featuring the 7.2-litre Chrysler V8 with triple twin-barrel carburettors, producing around 385 bhp—making it the most powerful production Jensen ever built. It was capable of effortless high-speed cruising and offered luxury and refinement that rivalled Aston Martin and Ferrari of the era. This particular car is believed to have been exported new to Australia, supplied by Manton Motors of Victoria. It later gained recognition as the Sports Car World magazine road test vehicle in September 1972, a testament to its originality and early significance. The Interceptor SP remains a true British icon—combining hand-built craftsmanship, American muscle, and elegant Italian styling from Carrozzeria Touring—making this example a highly collectable piece of Jensen history.
