They witnessed the launch of the Porsche 959 which was a four-wheel drive supercar prepared for Group B racing. As early as 1984, the small team at Jaguar thought a similarly driven, 4WD Jaguar with V12 power would take Jaguar to the top. , By the time the first customer cars were delivered in 1992, the financial crisis and costs cuts at Jaguar hit hard and the car was scaled back. The V12 was swapped for TWRs developed Garrett T3 Twin-Turbo 3.5L V6, developing 373KW/542bhp which was more than the originally planned V12s 500bhp. Power was then sent only to the rear wheels via the 5 Speed manual gearbox, however the aesthetic design of the car remained the same. , A joint venture between Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing(after much success in Le Mans 24hr racing with Jaguar) was formed with the aim to build the fastest road car in the world.
