An excellent and very original 1971 Daimler Sovereign. It’s increasingly difficult to find Series I survivors in decent shape but this is a very sound example with a solid underside and lovely Regency Red bodywork with no evidence of corrosion, damage or repair work. , It’s a remarkably easy and comfortable drive and wafts along happily. The big 6-cylinder engine feels strong and smooth. The throttle is responsive - helped, no doubt, by the recent addition of a new pair of carburettors. There are no temperature issues and the car has no problem starting. The automatic gearbox performs flawlessly and there are no issues with any of the gears. Suspension components are in good shape and the steering is feather-light in putting the car where it’s told with the braking system bringing things to a stop without drama. , , Inside is wholly original but could benefit from a little tidying. The driver’s seat bolster needs a repair to a tear on the side seam and a couple of door cards could do with a spruce-up. But there’s nothing of great urgency to address: each of the interior jobs can be tackled as and when time allows and you’ll be well on your way to a tip-top cabin fully in keeping with the car’s lovely overall appearance. , , ,
