1977 Austin Allegro 1.3 Super. Left Hand Drive. An extraordinary survivor from the heyday of British Leyland, this 1977 Austin Allegro 1300 Super is a wonderfully original left-hand-drive example showing just 24,200 kilometres from new — a little over 15,000 miles. Supplied new by a BL dealership in Switzerland, the car was used lightly by its first owner before being taken off the road at around 14,000 miles. Decades later, when the dealership finally closed its doors, the Allegro was discovered as part of a clearance of remaining stock and customer vehicles, still remarkably well-preserved. Recognising its rarity and untouched state, the second owner devoted over 150 hours to returning the Allegro to full roadworthy condition. His work was carried out sympathetically, retaining its originality wherever possible and ensuring the car performs exactly as it should. Today it stands as a charmingly authentic representation of late-Seventies British motoring, free from the corrosion, over-restoration or modification that so often affect surviving examples. The 1300 Super specification combined the lively and dependable 1275 cc A-Series engine with a four-speed manual gearbox and the famously smooth Hydragas suspension system. The result was a small family car that rode with unexpected refinement and delivered eager performance around town. This particular example remains faithful to its factory configuration, still wearing its correct trim, badges and brightwork, with the original interior showing only the lightest patina of age. Paintwork retains a deep period gloss and the body panels fit as neatly as they did when new. Having been carefully recommissioned and lightly used since, the Allegro drives beautifully, with light steering, supple suspension and the characteristic mechanical honesty that makes these cars so endearing. Underneath, it is clean and solid, a testament to its long-term indoor storage and careful maintenance rather than any major restoration work. Although now tax and MOT exempt, the car has an MOT through to October 2026 for the next owners peace of mind. It also qualifies as ULEZ compliant, making it one of the few true classics that can still be enjoyed freely in modern city zones. A left-hand-drive Allegro 1300 Super with fewer than 25,000 kilometres, clear provenance and such exceptional originality is a rare discovery indeed. For the discerning enthusiast or collector seeking a genuine, time-warp example of British Leylands most idiosyncratic creation, this Allegro represents an unrepeatable opportunity to own a piece of 1970s motoring history that feels as honest as the day it left Longbridge.
