MK1 TT (Type 8N) Background:Few cars have managed the transition from concept to production model quite as successfully as the Audi TT. Created by the VW Group Design Centre in California with Porsche firmly in their sights, the concept car was first unveiled at the 1995 Frankfurt motor show. The world was aghast and three years later, even more remarkably little had changed when it made its production debut in September 1998. The world loved it and sales soared, the TT was the boutique car of choice for the late 90’s and early 00’s and a design icon was born Autocar was impressed, describing it as ‘one of Audi’s most engaging machines in recent times… a handling sensation next to its other performance cars… more alive than any Audi we’ve driven since the original quattro’.With a little help from ABT the TT also became a successful racer, Frenchman Laurent Aïello winning the DTM title in 2002 beating Bernd Schneider in the legendary AMG CLK DTM. Another TT claimed 3rd place piloted by Mattias Ekström in the #9 car. The #9 TT-R now lives on digitally as a Grand Turismo legend featuring in every title. Technology and TraditionThe TT name has also been attributed to the phrase "Technology & Tradition”This is very apt given the then state of the art and previously unseen laser beam welding techniques used in its production to enable its seamless styling. Whilst it is also a nod to the historic successes of both NSU and DKW in the Isle of Man TT. Both companies later merged into the company now known as Audi Provenance:Built in March 2002 to UK Specification it was supplied new on the 5th July 2002 by Harold Wood Audi baring the cherished registration C9OXY. The purchaser Mr Cox had specified the vehicle in Raven Black Pearl with Bose and CD Changer options alongside a lifetime tracker to protect his new pride and joy. He would go on to keep the vehicle for the next 16 years and solely maintain it with the local dealer network for his entire tenure. Such was Mr Cox’ attention to detail he kept all the invoices and MOTs for this maintenance along with the original PDI sheet dated 05/07/02. In the summer of 2018 with just 4865 miles the vehicle was put up for sale but only after having had a full cambelt service once again by Harold Wood Audi. It was quickly snapped up by a long-term TT enthusiast and TT Owners Club member. As an aeronautical engineer by trade he was equally cosseting and again the TT was garaged and only driven in the dry used sparingly for shows and events with another TT acting as his daily driver. Ever the perfectionist the underside of the car was treated with Aero grade LPS3 to keep it as new.
