Extensive Restoration.GT Junior is one of a number of cars that were produced, interestingly, in two different hemispheres. How so?During the 1960s and 1970s Alfa Romeo took advantage of a tax loophole when exporting their products to South Africa. Right hand drive vehicles for this important market were built in Milan alongside those destined for other countries but they were removed from the production lines just before completion. The relatively minor final assembly (rumoured to be as little as bolting the wheels on, though instillation of the engine may have also been undertaken) was carried out in Alfa's factories in South Africa. The result backthen of this 2 stage production process was a far more favourable rate of tax and hence a more competitive retail price but today the bonus for the UK based Alfa enthusiast is potentially rust free right hand drive cars from warm and dry South Africa.The car was acquired by a passionate an avid Alfa aficionado.Nuts and bolts restoration.This restored example has been upgraded to a 2.0 litre engine paired with a 5-speed manual for greatly improved drivability. This car's body, resplendent in 'Rosso Bordeaux. is in truly excellent condition and is amongst the best wehave seen both structurally and cosmetically and again inspection on the ramps is recommended to appreciate the cars quality at first hand. The interior is restored cream leather with a Nardi wood wheel. .Extensive mechanical refurbishment.This numbers-matching Alfa GT Junior deserves a new caretaker to provide anexciting vintage driving experience.Clean and tidtengine bay, During the comprehensive engine rebuild a new 2.0 litre Giulia engine was installed providing much needed power and response compared to the original lacklustre 1.6 litre equivalent. Rear axle and gearbox refurbished where appropriate.Also a new clutch kit. The suspension was stripped, sand blasted and refinished to a high standard before being fitted with new bearings and bushes as required along with a new set of dampers. Indicative of the attention to detail, the steering box was stripped and any worn out parts were removed by hard-chroming and re-machining back to factory specification.The GT wears custom LED headlights and alloys which provide a mix of modern and classic, again refurbished to a high standard and these are fittedwith new tyres.The correct, single, Alfa mirror is present and good order. The chrome-work is very good with only very minimal pitting to the cast items such as rear lights, front grill and door handles.Inside the car is in very good shape having been fully re-trimmed in gorgeouspale cream leather with new contrasting black carpeting.
